L.A. comedian Nick Thune's penchant for wordplay should be instantly apparent from the title of his recently released debut album, Thick Noon. Yes, talking about the CD-DVD album is a bit of a tongue twister, but Thune doesn't beat people over the head with his cleverness. The album and his shows in general are fairly traditional, and while guitarist-comedians like him are a slivering demographic of performers, Thune instead prefers to buzz from one area of expertise to another. Though viral-video sketches like "Phone Tag" show his acting chops (as do his appearances in Mike Judge's Extract and Judd Apatow's Knocked Up), he's also a skillful stand-up, adept at slinging absurdist one-liners that double as verbal roller coasters.
