Nickelback has been the epitome of modern rock douchebaggery for so long that it’s sometimes easy to forget how incredibly successful these horse-faced Canadians have been in recent years. 2008’s Dark Horse, predictably, was treated like a Wet-Nap at Famous Dave’s by critics, who found little to love about an album that includes songs like “Something In Your Mouth” and “If Today Was Your Last Day.” But Nickelback’s unseemly combination of leering machismo and phony sentimentality somehow continues to make it one of the only safe bets in the music-industry wasteland. So, yes, Nickelback’s music is a heaping pile of shit, but don’t expect the stink to go away any time soon.
