Hip-hop stalwart Nas guested on reggae scion Damian Marley’s excellent 2005 crossover single, “Road To Zion," and the musical simpatico of the two proved undeniable. It’s a perfect complement of both styles, and it established a working relationship between Marley and Nas that, years later, has bloomed into Distant Relatives, an ambitious Afrocentric manifesto that finds a happy balance between Nas’ Queensbridge boom-bap and Marley’s rastafied reggae stylings. A 2005 guest spot on Kanye West’s “Touch The Sky” gave Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco the chance to release his tangled, thematically complex albums Food And Liquor and The Cool on a major label. Unfortunately, Fiasco’s been battling Atlantic Records ever since over a follow-up, Lasers. Expect to hear a little of that lost album here alongside the recently self-released single "Go To Sleep."
