North Mississippi Allstars and Alvin Youngblood Hart at Old Town School of Folk Music - Maurer Hall
The members of North Mississippi Allstars aren’t as famous as their name implies, but the pedigree is there: Luther and Cody Dickinson are the sons of famed Memphis producer Jim Dickinson. The two were raised in the northern hills of Mississippi, birthplace of the loping blues of Fred McDowell, R.L. Burnside, and Junior Kimbrough, and Northern Mississippi blues is far more expansive than its Delta strain, encouraging artists to stretch out. The group is at its best when the Dickinsons twist songs into incarnations of blues-rock that are simply impossible to imitate, as on their latest studio album, Keys To The Kingdom.
