The charmingly tussled members of Phoenix have had quite a run in the last year, and they deserve it. The band’s 2009 Grammy-winning album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, stands as one of the year’s (and maybe the decade’s) most universally beloved albums, and its spirit onstage—somewhere between a dreamboat rock band and a bunch of teenage friends getting high and fantasizing in their parents’ ’70s rec-room—keeps getting warmer the bigger it gets. For a band that’s put in the time going back to 2000’s United, it’s a well-deserved break. It plays an official Lollapalooza aftershow here with Toro Y Moi, who rode the chillwave into pop just last year, producing a debut full-length, Causers Of This, loaded with long-lined melodies, Reagan-era synth-pop textures, and lead singer Chaz Bundick's yearning falsetto.
