Pieta Brown, the daughter of Iowa folk legend Greg Brown, takes a similarly rootsy approach to her music as her father, though her voice is reminiscent of a sultrier Sheryl Crow rather than dad’s deep growl. 2007’s Remember The Sun, her fourth album and the best work of her career so far, moved her firmly from promising songwriter to a solid creator of heartland folk-rock. It’s starting to get her some well-deserved notice, too: She contributed guest vocals on Calexico’s Carried To Dust. Brown is touring now behind last year’s seven-song EP, Flight Time.
