The now-expired ’80s revival of the '00s totally passed by Polysics: The Japanese group formed in 1997, and has since released a steady stream of bouncy, retroactively robotic synth-pop discs. With members who dress in matching jumpsuits yelping over bleeping, blooping synthesizers, Polysics is clearly the product of Devo worship—though its 2009 disc, Absolute Polysics, cuts paths through punk and new wave in a manner far more unhinged than even the rawest cuts from Devo's days as performance artists. That intensity carries over to the band's live show, undercut only by the jerkin' back-and-forth of deceptively human keyboardist Kayo, who will "graduate" from the band following an upcoming gig at Budokan.
