A.V. Club: Best of the Decade
  • David McClister

Smiling, suit-clad, old-timey Americana bands rarely venture into such satisfying blends as Red Stick Ramblers’ self-described “Cajun gypsy swing.” Though the Louisiana group occasionally writes songs in French and loves to cover old-school Cajun tunes, it has much more than authenticity going for it. Prickly jazz-guitar leads and dual fiddles bring out sweetness, freedom, and warmth that make it impossible to confuse RSR’s work for a dry exercise in musical anthropology.
