Chicago punk outfit Rise Against is lucky: It's one of few groups that translated success in the indie scene to popularity on a major label—an especially impressive feat during the music industry's collapse. Now three albums into its stay on Universal—the most recent being 2008's fantastic Appeal To Reason—Rise Against is at the top of its game, making this "Songs from the Fat Years" 10th-anniversary show at Metro more a lark than sad nostalgia. In fact, Rise Against's 2001 debut, The Unraveling—one of the two early albums released by Fat Wreck Chords that will be the focus here—is easily the band's weakest. (Its successor, 2003's Revolutions Per Minute, was a great improvement.) Still, it should be fun to see the band dip into old songs, and proceeds from the show will benefit the Children's Intonation Music Workshop.
