http://www.ticketweb.com/snl/VenueListings.action?venueId=13340 Robbie Fulks and Steve Frisbie at The Hideout

Robbie Fulks was introduced to many as an alt-country smartass, thanks to songs like “She Took A Lot Of Pills (And Died),” and his live sets often detour into wildly bizarre humor. But albums like 2001’s Couples In Trouble proved him a startlingly effective and diverse songwriter. Plus, his 2007 live album, Revenge!, captured how his ambition and goofier tendencies mesh into stupendously fun live shows. Fulks graduates from versatile and prolific to, shall we say, bulk-sized with his digital release, 50-Vc. Doberman. It’s a ginormous 50-song set, but it’s no surprise that the material’s pretty damn consistent. Fulks has been playing weekly at The Hideout for some time now, so it’s no surprise that his songwriting gears are turning again: He’s working on a new record, according to his website.
