None True Stories at Doc Films - Max Palevsky Cinema
True Stories is a bizarre and enjoyable travelogue about a fictional Texas town that counts as a must-see if only for writer-director-star David Byrne’s ever-quotable dialogue and his straight-faced performance as the traveling narrator. In a way, True Stories sums up everything of interest in ’80s cinema: good music, weird wiriness, and quirk of an unpredictable, accessible, and oddly personal kind. And while Byrne is the most obvious attraction, he charitably hands over his killer songs (from the album of the same name) to a motley cast of comic actors like Swoosie Kurtz, Spalding Gray, and John Goodman, whose portrayal of a lonely, big-hearted singer-songwriter ranks among his most loveable.
