Filming improvised theater should suck all the life out of it, but T.J. Jagodowski and David Pasquesi are too good to let that happen. Arguably one of the world’s finest improv combos, Jagodowski and Pasquesi practice a slow, patient performance style, allowing the show to dictate their choices, and not the other way around. Director Alex Karpovsky took the promise Jagodowski and Pasquesi make to all of their audiences—“Trust us, this is all made up”—and made it the title and thesis of his documentary on the duo. Trust Us, This Is All Made Up is a compelling dissection of two smartly funny minds, the science of their collaboration, and the rewards that come from trusting your partner implicitly and getting out of the art’s way.
