The Walkmen, White Rabbits, and TV Torso at Lincoln Hall
The Walkmen have pumped out waves upon waves of big, hooky rock that scrapes at memories of ’60s garage while beating with an anguished contemporary heart. Spacious guitar effects and swirls of organ keep the songs’ intentions nice and murky, but the band has a lot to put on display—as exhibited on 2004’s transcendent Bows + Arrows and 2008’s You & Me, an album with lots of bristling, suggestive atmosphere. The band's gig at last summer's Pitchfork Music Festival demonstrated the guys have finally mastered a clean, live sound, which should prove just as easy at the acoustically sound Lincoln Hall, barely a month old.
