Self-proclaimed rock star and local legend Wesley Willis has remained an unparalleled talent since his death in 2003. His more than 50 albums of keyboard-centric songs with vulgar shouting belie the more introspective parts of his nature—something only hinted at in the calm line drawings adorning most of his album covers. Chris Bagley and Kim Shively have concocted an excellent companion piece to the 2003 music-focused Willis documentary, Wesley Willis: The Daddy Of Rock ’N’ Roll in the new Wesley Willis’s Joyrides, which takes a deeper look at his art and the man himself.
