Wilco has reached a point in its career when its local shows are events, rare opportunities to see the celebrated Chicago band emerge from hiding in plain sight. To wit, this show at a minor-league ballpark in South Bend, Indiana, is billed as the band's "last Midwest appearance of 2010." If you're going to make the hike all the way down to South Bend, it might as well be to see Wilco with Yo La Tengo, a similarly long-running band whose appearances in Chicago have become increasingly infrequent. Both bands released solid albums last year, Wilco (The Album) and Popular Songs, and both have deep wells of classics to draw from for this rare joint appearance. Interestingly, all tickets are general admission, including field and bandstand access, so plan to arrive early—doors open at 5.
