Also Playing: Luke Doucet
Canadian singer-songwriter Luke Doucet abandoned his dreams of becoming a lawyer to cut his teeth in the professional-music racket as a touring guitarist for Sarah McLachlan in the early ’90s. Though he continued to work for McLachlan as a producer, he also formed the quirky indie-space-rock band Veal, which essentially peaked on its 2000 debut, Hot Loser, before petering out a few short years later. He released his first solo album, Aloha Manitoba, while still playing with Veal, but Doucet went on hiatus to become a full-time producer and studio musician, and from there became a full-fledged solo musician in 2005. He hasn’t released anything since last year’s Tom Waits/Bruce Springsteen-like Blood’s Too Rich, but the man is nothing if not a polished performer.
