Donna Bowman

Donna Bowman (contributor) moonlights as a theologian and college professor in Arkansas, of all places. She's never lived north of the Mason-Dixon line, though she's sure it's a fine place to visit. Her obsessive consumption of secular pop culture stems from a Southern Baptist upbringing where movies and TV were forbidden fruit. Luckily, her parents let her read whatever she wanted, and often encouraged her to "turn on the light" lest she "ruin [her] eyes." Her bookwormish tendencies led to degrees in religion from Wake Forest, Georgia, and Virginia. Donna owes her position at The A.V. Club, like everything else in her life, to nepotism. Someday, she hopes to get a job through simony as well. Donna lives a stone's throw from Toad Suck Square in Conway, Arkansas, with her husband and two children.
