Scott Tobias

When Scott Tobias (film editor) was growing up on the mean streets of suburban Toledo, he used to draw pictures on strips of construction paper and run them through the slats on the saloon doors that separated the kitchen from the living room. He didn't know it then, but he was already a slave to celluloid. The rest follows the movie-critic playbook: Working for the local multiplex at age 16; writing for the University of Georgia's student newspaper (first review: Cop And A Half) while logging time as a projectionist, radio co-host, and programmer for the campus theater; and spending a fruitless sojourn in a post-grad Cinema Studies program. After meeting current section editor Keith Phipps at a screening in New York, Tobias contributed some freelance reviews before being brought up to Chicago, where he's labored happily since 1999 and where he currently resides with his beautiful wife Alison, their daughter Isabel, their dueling cats Lola and Tortie, and a delightful pug named Iris.
