Reaching out to anti-tobacco crusader Rep. Edward Markey (D-MA), Disney CEO Robert Iger has pledged that "depictions of cigarette smoking in future Disney-branded films will be non-existent." Furthermore, Disney plans to place anti-smoking PSAs on DVDs and possibly even theatrical showings of movies that feature smoking. It will also discourage its Miramax or Touchstone off-shoots from letting characters light up--yes, even after scenes featuring gratuitous murders or sweaty, anonymous fucking. They wouldn't want to give impressionable youth any ideas.
