First it was a modern cult classic, now Donnie Darko is a play. Marcus Stern, the associate director of Massachusetts' American Repertory Theatre, has adapted the film for the stage and will direct a May 5 reading at the Mint Theatre in New York City. Blake Bashoff--Lost fans know him as Karl--will take on the titular role originally played by Jake Gyllenhaal. The play was previously performed at Stern's A.R.T. in October.
