It takes a lot to get the better of Jesse Vint, intergalactic troubleshooter. Awakened from hibernation by trusty robo-sidekick Sam-104, Vint has little trouble dispatching one of early-'80s space travelers' most persistent problems: recycled footage from the 1980 space epic Battle Beyond The Stars. Greater problems await, however, when Sam-104 informs Vint that their next assignment will take them to the remote research planet Xarbia, home to yards and yards of interchangeable corridors. Once they arrive, a shaken research team tells them about "Subject 20," an attempt to create a new food source-turned-"genetic wildcat" that has become a threat only genetic-wildcat-tamer Vint can address. But who worries about such matters when there's soft-focus lovemaking to be done? After shutting off the wisecracking Sam-104, Vint encounters half-dressed science whiz June Chadwick, who tempts him to her quarters with the line, "I hear you're the best troubleshooter in the Federation. Want to see some trouble?" Not overly concerned about resting up for the long day ahead of him, Vint later stumbles upon nude geneticist Dawn Dunlap, enjoying a steam-bath after a scantily clad late-night stroll. A shrill alarm interrupts his attempts at a second round of troubleshooting, however, alerting the crew that the danger is closer than expected. After the failure of their initial attempts to neutralize the threat, Chadwick suggests communicating with Subject 20. "That's about the stupidest damn idea I've heard all day... No offense," Vint responds. Unconvinced by his discouragement, Chadwick proceeds with her plan. Enlisting Dunlap during a long, mutually nude bathing session, Chadwick tries to talk Subject 20 down, only to realize too late the full stupidity of her damn idea, as the one-time potential food source makes a meal of her. Soon, the entire crew is running scared from the fleshy, poorly defined, ill-lighted, questionably mobile mass that Subject 20 has become. Only when a cancer-stricken, cigarette-sucking scientist feeds Subject 20 one of his tumors is Vint assured a return to the stock-footage-plagued heavens.
