Tagline: "Si certaine situations vous choquent... N'allez pas voir ce film. Il n'est pas pour vous!" [Subtitled mistranslation: "If you are easily shocked, don't see this film. You won't like it!"]
Plot: A dull road trip across France takes an unexpectedly erotic/terrifying turn when two students (Mireille Saunin and Michéle Perello) stop in a remote country village. A missed turn lands them in a barn where they have little recourse but to make out with each other over a swooning score. When Perello disappears the next day, however, it looks like their Sapphic explorations have come to an end. But thanks to the gnomelike Alfred Baillou, Saunin soon finds her way to Perello's new home, a mysterious castle ruled by sometime King Arthur opponent Morgana Le Fay (Dominique Delpierre). And what's the house rule? Lesbian sex, and lots of it!
Key scenes: To help ease Saunin into her new Morgana-centric lifestyle, Delpierre hands her a hookah and says, "The perfumes of the Orient may supply what logic denies you." Elsewhere in the castle, Perello receives a harsher initiation. Bound by purple ribbon and surrounded by old women, she's instructed by Delpierre that she has two choices: Become a blissful sex slave and live forever, or spend the rest of her life as an ugly old lady. (Perello quickly makes up her mind.) In the film's climax, Baillou attempts to stage a palace coup, with little success. But he tells Saunin how to leave the castle and travel back beyond the border of the "real and imagined." Saunin does, but perhaps sensing that a life not spent constantly grooming herself for, participating in, and recovering from lesbian orgies might be a letdown, she decides to turn back.
Can easily be distinguished by: Director Bruno Gantillon fills the film with more candles than The Police's "Wrapped Around Your Finger" video.
Sign that it was made in 1971: Although they're timeless nymphs, Delpierre's girl-slaves still sport Jan Brady hair.
Timeless message: Life as a wrinkled old crone versus life as a nubile immortal: Not such a tough choice.
Memorable quotes: Saunin, speaking shortly after her arrival while standing naked in a wood tub and being bathed by three extremely attentive robed women: "It's strange here."
