Weekend Box Office: Surprise! Will Smith wins July 4th weekend
Last week’s No. 1, Wall-E, fell 47 percent to the No. 2 spot with $33.4 million, and Wanted fell 60 percent to No. 3 with $20.6 million. Kung Fu Panda, The Incredible Hulk, and Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull make up the chart’s middle region, joined by latecomer Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, which opened in limited release last week. Upon wide release, the Abigail Breslin-starring kiddie flick grossed a modest $3.6 million, enough to land it at No. 8 (up from No. 23, though it had only opened in five theaters at that point). Sex And The City and You Don’t Mess With The Zohan round out the top 10, with stinkers The Love Guru and The Happening finally sinking out of range to No. 11 and No. 13 after only three and four weeks, respectively.
