Cross Canadian Ragweed and Ha Ha Tonka at 9:30 Club
Cross Canadian Ragweed’s initials conveniently serve as an homage to rootsy pioneers Creedence Clearwater Revival. Though the long-running band has been pegged as alt-country, this CCR actually sounds more like a solid, rockin’ pub band that owes at least as much to Skynyrd as it does to Buck Owens. That approach continues to serve the group well on 2009’s Happiness And All The Other Things, which features fine covers of Warren Zevon’s “Carmelita” and Willie Nelson’s “Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground.”
