The Devil Makes Three, The Baltimore String Felons, and Patient Zero at The Talking Head Club

San Francisco-based acoustic trio The Devil Makes Three cooks up blues, ragtime, and folk without the assistance of a drummer, but it has a thick indie-rock streak that should make it pretty clear that this isn’t your average old-timey band. Comparisons have been made to Violent Femmes and The White Stripes, and fans of Two Gallants should certainly give the Three a listen, but the sound is much more old-fashioned than those reference points imply. Which isn’t to say that the music is decrepit—singer-guitarist Pete Bernhard says, “We started this band to get people to dance to acoustic music.” The band’s new Do Wrong Right recently topped the Billboard bluegrass chart.
