The Get Up Kids, Kevin Devine, and The Life And Times at 9:30 Club

Emo existed long before The Get Up Kids and Vagrant Records, but the sound now associated with the genre would presumably be quite different without those two partners in crime. A decade ago, nobody had heard of the upstart L.A. label, but that all changed with the release of Something To Write Home About, whose huge hooks and heart-on-sleeve lyrics helped usher in an era of pop-core made by sensitive dudes who get more groupies in a weekend than Rites Of Spring ever did. But don’t hold that against The Get Up Kids—just enjoy the fact that the band is back together and celebrating the 10th anniversary of its finest hour.
