Kurt Vile And The Violators, The New Flesh, and Benjy Ferree at The Black Cat Backstage
According to Kurt Vile’s MySpace page, the prolific guitarist is “Philadelphia’s Constant Hitmaker.” And while it’s unlikely that Vile will crack the Top 40 anytime soon, the man’s star certainly has risen over the past few months, particularly among the sort of music fans who dutifully travel to Bushwick for the latest rock sensations—and who don’t mind a few minutes of noisy experimentation if it means a melodic payoff somewhere down the line. Luckily for them, that payoff usually arrives: Vile’s washed-out electric folk, replete with electronic flutter, whispery vocals, and plenty of reverb, is as palatable as ever.
