The Very Best and Javelin at DC9
African-music project The Very Best has a lot of gangly reach, having come together when a couple of European guys known as Radio Clit met singer Esau Mwamwaya in London. They started making music, with Radio Clit crafting modern backing tracks for Mwamwaya's golden voice, and the whole thing took off last year with a beloved mix-tape that drew original stuff in alongside material by M.I.A. and others. Now The Very Best has a proper album to tout, and it's a good one: Warm Heart Of Africa is in fact warm and has a lot of heart in songs that sound like futuristic memories of what African pop could stand to sound like now.
