Our music scene is a busy place with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.
• 3OH!3 may have predicted its own future with 2010’s Streets Of Gold release. As of last week, the electro-rap duo had officially gone gold by RIAA standards for selling more than half a million copies of 2008’s Want. The guys are currently in the studio working on their next record, due for release later this year. Maybe they ought to consider naming it Platinum, Please?
• Slim Cessna’s Auto Club stopped by the Daytrotter studios last week for a live recording of both newish and older tracks, including “The Unballed Ballad Of The New Folk Singer” and “United Brethren.” The session is up now, available to paid subscribers as a stream and a download. Don’t want to fork over the $2 a month for a Daytrotter account? Slim Cessna also performed “No Doubt About It” earlier this month for Canada’s Exclaim! TV, which posted the video to its YouTube channel.
• Another Daytrotter veteran, Denver’s Bad Weather California premièred a brand-new music video over at Relix this week for “I’ll Reach Out My Hand.” But the more interesting tidbit, as is the way of the Internet, is the slightly misguided and angry comment from Eric Wood on the video, which accuses in all-caps, “FUCK YOU STUPID PIECES OF SHIT STEALING MY BANDS LOGO - YOU KNOW YOU DID !!! YOU COULD HAVE ASKED EASILY BUT YOU DIDN'T !!! SO FUCK YOU ASSHOLES !!! THE BATTLE HAS JUST BEGUN… FUCK YOU !!!” Could this be the same Wood from the Man Is The Bastard logo scandal mistaking the Akron/Family-signed BWC for Akron/Family?
• If you’ve ever wished for the guys in Gauntlet Hair to make you a mixtape, consider that creepy request fulfilled with Digital Cassette No. 3. A selection of drummer Craig Nice’s current playlist, the digital tape was mixed down by Beta Unit and posted as a totally free stream over at the impossible-to-navigate thetwinboys.com.
• The Brass Tree Sessions, an online live music series, will be making its broadcast debut this Saturday on PBS/CPT Channel 12. Scheduled (so far) to run for one season—which comes out to six half-hour episodes—the première will look pretty familiar to anyone who’s been following the local production troupe. Episode 101 will be an edited-down version of Episode 6: The UMS, Parts 1 & 2, which BTS originally posted online late last summer.
Episode #6 - the UMS - Wombmates, Finn Riggins, and Achille Lauro (1/3) from Brass Tree Sessions on Vimeo.
