Achille Lauro readies new 12-inch release

This is the digital age, and CDs just seem so unbearably 1982, don’t they? Achille Lauro knows just how you feel, and consequently won’t be releasing its next effort Indiscretions on that woefully antiquated medium. Instead, the release will be on 12-inch vinyl, a technology that debuted in 1949. (The album, due April 10, will also be available digitally for those living in 2010.)
The seven-track EP is Achille Lauro’s first release since 2008’s self-titled effort, and it features a slightly different incarnation of the band than the last time it headed into the studio. With the departure of guitarist Brian Joseph, the act was forced to reflect on and refine its priorities. Gone are the days of the sprawling, epic songwriting as the slimmed-down band found a new respect for immediacy and economy. “We wanted to try to write pop songs, almost,” explains guitarist-keyboardist Luke Mossman. “We also started integrating computers into it and built in some sequencing. There’s more song structure and more focus on melodies.”
