Act So Big Forest sets up shop at Meadowlark in February
If you haven’t been paying attention, you might have missed the fact that in the last year or two, our sleepy college town neighbor to the north, Fort Collins, got all kinds of awesome musically. Bands as diverse as the quirky Danielle Ate The Sandwich and the thoroughly rocking Wire Faces suddenly started appearing, others such as Iuengliss—who made waves here—turned out to be from there, and then there was this whole Act So Big Forest thing, a massive collective of acts that was home to all kinds of good stuff, including Candy Claws, that ranged from boozy alt-country to out-there experimental sound collage.
It was almost enough to make a trip up there to see some of those acts, except, you know, fuck that because that’s a long way to drive, and we’re all basically pretty lazy. Well now you don’t have to worry about road-tripping to the home of Colorado State University to see some of Fort Fun’s most intriguing acts: They’re doing the hard part and dragging their asses down here! For three Thursdays in February, the Meadowlark is becoming ersatz Ft. Collins as the Act So Big Collective takes over the place for a residency. Kicking off Feb. 3 with a great lineup that includes Sour Boy Bitter Girl and the brilliantly named The Kevin Costner Suicide Pact (and really, with a name that awesome, who even cares what they sound like?), it’s three weeks of the Fort’s finest, brought almost directly to your doorstep. (Unless you live in Highlands Ranch or Aurora or some bullshit, in which case, we’re sorry, move to Denver proper already.)
You can grab this compilation from last year to get a preview of what you might hear. (For the record, The Kevin Costner Suicide Pact’s contribution is a trippy, echo-laden found sound/ambient entry that’s actually pretty cool.) Then, plan your visits based on the full lineup below.
