Alphabets cover Suicide classic “Cheree”

One-man experimental dance-noise-pop act Alphabets has been back in the studio recently (okay, as prolific as that dude is, he probably never leaves the studio), prepping a new batch of tunes. One of those tunes is neither new nor an Alphabets song, but a cover of the criminally under-appreciated song “Cheree” by the criminally under-appreciated band Suicide. Alphabets have kept something close to the hypnotically minimal pulse of the original, but shifted the timbres and mood slightly, setting it in a carnival funhouse and turning the knob marked “weirdness” all the way to its maximum setting, which works really well for the song.

That new batch of tunes—which goes by the oddly intriguing title Beiber Jerboa—is being released this Friday, March 18 at a Rhinoceropolis show with several fellow travelers in weird, including Hideous Men, Milton Melvin Croissant III, and Mystic Bummer.
Since Suicide in general and the song in particular are so under appreciated, we’ve included the original for easy reference (and hopefully, to spark an interest in the original synth-punk masters). Enjoy!
