Anvil tour, greatest hits package announced
More Just Announced
There are few stories in the annals of metal more heartwarming than the tale of Anvil, the little metal band that could. As documented in the 2008 film Anvil!: The Story Of Anvil, this is a band that stuck to its dreams through years of never quite getting there, quietly becoming an influential metal band while watching the bands it influenced shoot to stardom and success. And because every such story needs a happy ending, the film naturally resulted in a surge of attention directed its way, leading to world tours, new albums, and an unprecedented level of interest (albeit still a relatively minor level of interest, compared to say, Metallica).
A simple revival tour and one more album would have been a fitting end to that story, but Anvil keeps chugging on. The band released a new album earlier this year and now it’s got a greatest hits package, Monument Of Metal: The Very Best Of Anvil, hitting Sept. 27. The greatest hits package draws on everything from 1982’s Metal On Metal through this year’s Juggernaut Of Justice, with a handful of tracks being re-recorded versions. As well as being a good entry point for the curious metal fan who saw the movie but never bothered to dig deeper, it should also serve as a fine piece of merch to hawk along the band’s just-announced tour dates. The tour kicks off Oct. 19 in Springfield, Virginia before wrapping up Nov. 7 in New York City, bringing a seminal metal band to aging heshers and curious newcomers alike.
