Music Notes Breathe Carolina grabs boobs, Mane Rok tackles brutality, and more

Breathe Carolina, Music Notes

Our music scene is a busy place with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.

Breathe Carolina was in L.A. earlier this month shooting a video for its latest single, “Blackout.” And from the looks of the behind-the-scenes footage posted yesterday, the electro-rock duo is certainly living up to the track’s party-hard chorus. The five-minute-long making-of video shows the guys getting inked, food fighting with bikini-clad extras, and hanging with strippers. “Grabbing boobs and eating chocolate is basically what I’ve been doing all day,” vocalist David Schmitt jokes at one point. Rough life, no?

• Coming from the extreme other end of the content spectrum, rapper Mane Rok took on the heavy topic of police brutality for his newest music video, “This One’s.” Shot against a metropolis-looking Denver skyline, the video is a fictional narrative about the very real issues of excessive force and civil responsibility.

The Fray posted yet another “studio vlog” to YouTube this week, showing off bits and pieces of new songs as well as some candid—if subdued—moments with the guys. This coming off an earlier Twitter announcement that, “We’re done recording and mixing [our third album], but it has a couple more stops on the assembly line before it gets to you.”

• Denver metal band Enemy Reign unveiled a revised lineup last night at 3 Kings Tavern. Frontman Steve Boiser—who replaced former lead vocalist Sherwood Webber—told BW&BK yesterday morning, “I’m stoked to be working with such an awesome bunch of dudes. This is definitely the most in-your-face band I’ve ever been in.”

• In other metal news, Colorado Springs-based power metal band Jag Panzer announced its dissolution this week, ending a metal reign that stretched back to the early ’80s.

• And the local tweet of the week goes to Fort Collins’ Danielle Ate The Sandwich (@AteTheSandwich) who tartly announced last week, “Need to get laid? I’ve got slutty fans and plenty of Colorado shows. Git sum.” The singer-songwriter also has a new video out—no surprise there—a cover of Des’ree’s “You Gotta Be,” which she recorded to help raise money for the Hartman House Foundation
