Buffy still wouldn’t listen to Widespread Panic
Buffy wouldn’t listen to Widespread Panic—or, at least, she probably wouldn’t. A few Inventories back, on The A.V. Club’s weekly list (see this week’s), we came up with 11 fictional characters assigned questionable taste in music by their writers. The Scooby gang was right up there. Fanatic, detail-oriented viewers had spotted all kinds of Widespread Panic merch in the show’s background throughout the run of the series. And this week, in an act of pure pop-culture fate, both the Buffster and the Panic are in town.
The original Buffy The Vampire Slayer—the 1992 film version starring Kristy Swanson and Dylan from 90210—screens this weekend at the Starz FilmCenter. It’s hosted by the Mile High Sci-Fi crew, and the band of local comics will surely, er, slay the painfully ’90s flick, damning it back to the hellmouth of VHS obscurity. Also this weekend, like through the entire weekend, Widespread Panic descends on Denver with a sold-out in-store Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Twist & Shout, followed by three consecutive (also sold out*) shows at Red Rocks starting on Friday. Whoever you are, unidentified set dresser who pasted the Buffyverse with all those Panic stickers, this weekend is yours and yours alone.
