Comedy beats the crap out of cancer
Comedians Ben Roy, Michelle Miracle, and others bring laughs and awareness

They say laughter is the best medicine. If that's true, local comedian Ben Roy, who could easily match Denis Leary in a who-can-shout-the-loudest competition, is like a knockout dose of a prescription painkiller. Tonight’s Comedy Fights Cancer showcase at the Hi-Dive aims to raise money—and more importantly, awareness—in the fight against cancer, but there’s an extra twist: several of the performers are cancer survivors themselves. Rick Bryan, a comedian who was diagnosed three years ago and recently completed a chemo cycle, is teaming up with fellow survivor Ross Hyzer and Atlanta-based comedian Patrick Dodd, who organized the benefit with the intent to deliver his message of hope with a rock ’n’ roll edge. The proceedings will be hosted by the always outrageous (and outstanding) Michelle Miracle. It’s a win-win: The money goes to a great cause and you’re guaranteed at least a laugh a minute, if not more.
