Music Notes Danielle Ate The Sandwich at the Grammys, Lady Wu-Tang thrills Thrillist, and more

Our music scene is a busy place with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.

Danielle Ate The Sandwich is headed to the Grammys… maybe. The Fort Collins singer-songwriter is in the running—along with, unfortunately, a couple hundred others—for the inaugural Grammy Live contest, a vote-based tally whose winner will be given a chance to play in L.A. during Grammy week. A few other locals made the lengthy nomination list, including Crooked Fingers, Sauna, The Widow’s Bane, and Churchill. The polls are open now on Facebook and you can vote up to 10 times a day.

• Colorado’s (maybe the world’s?) only all-female Wu-Tang Clan tribute group Lady Wu-Tang—which will play their first-anniversary show at City Hall on January 28—popped up on Thrillist this week in a short feature. The interview’s most quotable line? “Boobs happen.”

• The late hip-hop producer J Dilla is getting a Colorado-style tribute at Beauty Bar on February 7 (what would have been his 38th birthday). Prompted by Donuts Are Forever, an annual homage for Dilla that started in New York, the local take on it features DJs Zak Harper, Red C, and Neon Brown. All proceeds will go to the Lupus Foundation of Colorado.

Pictureplane held down the top spot on Shuffler.fm last week as the aggregate site’s most blogged about artist, at the time ahead of Lana Del Rey and Sleigh Bells. But 15 minutes translates to about 15 seconds in Internet time, and Pictureplane has since (as of today) slipped down to the No. 13 spot.

Monroe Monroe showed off some iPhone wizardry in the studio last week in a quickie behind-the-scenes video posted to YouTube. In it, vocalist-guitarist Bella Abbatecola plays a synth line through an app on his phone—which is about as exciting as watching a guy play with an app on his phone.
