John Taylor heads to Hong Kong to up the ante
John Taylor’s quest to become the world’s fastest guitarist has pretty humble roots: He launched the campaign with a YouTube video filmed in a practice space in his Dr. Hot Lix’ School of Guitar lesson center. Things are decidedly less low-key these days: The Denver-based shredder will make an attempt to strengthen his hold on the title he landed in June at New Year festivities in Hong Kong’s Olympian City Mall, where festival organizers have him on tap to perform a 620-beats-per-minute version of “Flight Of The Bumblebee.” If he succeeds and gets the nod from Guinness officials who are set to be on-hand to certify the attempt (take that, Della Vega), he’ll ramp it up and go for something really fast. There’s an 800-bpm version of the shred standard in Taylor waiting to be set free.
