News Net Denver's airport is way more popular than anyone thought

Since sifting through dull newspapers, hyperbolic blogs, and overflowing RSS feeds for meaningful news can be an arduous process, News Net catches and compiles both the amusing and the significant reports that were overlooked throughout the weekend. Here are some things to think about as the workweek begins.

• In 2010, 52,209,377 people flew through Denver International Airport, making last year the airport’s busiest year. That’s a crazy-big number for Denver, considering only 600,158 people were recorded in the 2010 Census. Think about it: Where are the other 51,609,219 people? Googling “52,209,377” returns a picture of this guy, who seems as shocked by the number as we are.

• All together now: WOOOOOOO SPRING BREAK!!!

• The media and opponents seem to be getting more sympathetic toward mayoral candidate Jeff “UFO Guy” Peckman. Guys, stop it; it’s not funny to keep the joke going like this. Have none of you seen Carrie? This will end badly.

• A group of eighth graders from Longmont visited Washington D.C. and got a surprise visit from the president, who was still chuckling about all that nonsense that’s been going on. Here’s hoping Obama’s hello helps prevent the students from becoming as cynical about their government as Lisa Simpson.

• Budgetary depravity in the state capital is now putting more than jobs and education under the gun; suggested budget cuts now threaten funding for cancer screenings, too. If the government doesn’t fund it, its problems don’t exist, right?
