DeVotchka plans Halloween bashes
Denver outfit bucks its romantic reputation for a spooky one
More Just Announced
If Denver residents are reminded of a holiday when DeVotchKa comes to mind, that holiday is almost certainly Valentine’s Day, as the band has developed an annual tradition of playing up its romantic angle at a holiday-themed show over the past several years. But love season only rolls around once a year, and the band’s not going to wait around that long to celebrate. In October, it’s set to play against type and embrace another annual tradition: celebrating not love, but rather monsters, demons, and zombies, with a pair of Halloween shows. The events, to be held Oct. 28 at the Ogden Theatre and Oct. 29 at the Boulder Theater, shouldn’t be too different from the Valentine’s Day show; the fat dude who dons a diaper and dresses as Cupid in February won’t even have to find a new wardrobe. Tickets are available through the band’s website (for the shows in Denver and Boulder). Three months is certainly enough planning time to find a date and master DeVotchKa frontman Nick Urata’s guide to not wrecking your chances at romance by the time October rolls around.
