News Net Dry cleaning business breaks the law, poor education thwarts terror plot, and more

News Net, Breaking Bad, Aurora terror plot, Najibullah Zazi Just be glad those dry cleaners weren't in league with this man

Since sifting through dull newspapers, hyperbolic blogs, and overflowing RSS feeds for meaningful news can be an arduous process, News Net catches and compiles both the amusing and the significant reports that were overlooked throughout the weekend. Here are some things to think about as the workweek begins.

• A dry cleaning business in Denver is accused of illegally dumping a tractor-trailer full of hazardous chemicals in town. That’s heinous, but maybe we should just be happy the owners of the business weren’t using it as a cover for a methamphetamine super lab run by a former high school chemistry teacher.

• Speaking of high school chemistry, an in-depth story on the alleged Aurora-based would-be terrorist Najibullah Zazi reveals the FBI became aware of his existence after intercepting an e-mail Zazi wrote seeking help with getting his homemade explosives to explode. In other words, if the American-educated suspect had learned more in his high school chemistry class, the FBI might never have caught him. At last, flaws in America’s educational system pays off!

• A Loveland woman who was praying during her daily commute was hit in the face with a sledgehammer that crashed through her windshield. Luckily she required only a few stitches, telling reporters that her miraculous survival nearly unscathed must be a “God thing.” Now, we’re no theologians, but it occurs to us that if God were really on her side, then maybe He would have just skipped hitting her in the face with a sledgehammer altogether.

• A Denver man was arrested for buying weapons in violation of his parole, just three days after being released from prison. He probably just figured it’d be easier to get his prison job back than to try to make a living in this economy.

• More than 50 vehicles were vandalized in a Denver neighborhood over the weekend after juveniles were spotted in the area late at night. See, this is why it’s a terrible idea to tell kids to stop playing video games and get some fresh air and exercise.
