Elway feud makes ESPN, Musa says goodbye, and more
Elway (the band, not the man)
Our music scene is a busy place with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.
• Surely, by now, you’ve read about the whole Elway vs. Elway debacle over at Westword. You may even be one of the 2,500-plus commenters who have pushed the story to the top of the board at The Post Game. And you’ve definitely seen our own Jock Itch’s take on it, right? But did you catch Elway (the band) on ESPN’s Jim Rome Is Burning yesterday?
• Who isn’t moving to New York these days? DJ Musa is putting on one last hometown show this Friday at Euphoria Lounge before making the long trip east. He’ll be gone “indefinitely this time,” and has already promised to start work on a solo full-length as soon as he reaches the Atlantic.
• Working back the opposite way, the guys in 3OH!3 are heading home this summer with two recently announced Colorado dates: July 28 at the Bluebird Theater and July 29 at the Fox Theatre in Boulder. Both venues are smaller than what the group has been playing, and it’s likely that both dates will sell out. No ticket information available yet.
• People come and go, but at least we’ll always have new local albums to keep us company. The Microdots are releasing a debut full-length, Orkid, this Friday at the Gothic Theatre. The next night at 3 Kings Tavern, Il Cattivo will also drop a new disc. And if the poster for the show is any indication, it’ll be a really good, kind of spooky one.
• The second annual Hi-Dive Hullabaloo is going down the weekend of July 1 and 2 at—where else?—the Hi-Dive. The full schedule was recently posted on Facebook. In case you missed it, here’s a short video preview of what the show will feel like (but probably won’t actually look like).
