Music Notes Everyone wants on the Magic Cyclops bandwagon, Pictureplane’s Russian adventure, and more

Our music scene is a busy place with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.

Magic Cyclops may have punked American Idol, but he’s nobody’s fool. The Denver personality/air guitar hero received a quick apology last week from social media blog Total Tech, which had incorrectly identified Cyclops as being affiliated with Davenport, Iowa’s B100 radio crew. Of course, the bigger blame goes to B100 DJs Bryan Scott and Tony Tone who started the rumors in the first place, initially claiming that they met Cyclops “five years ago and devised this plan to get him on American Idol.” Cyclops’ response (via Facebook)? “I don’t know these jerks at all.”

Pictureplane wrote a lengthy tour diary for the Mishka NYC blog, detailing his recent tour through Russia. The trip, as he writes, was “a profoundly special experience” that included crying fans, private house parties, and a girl named Zebra.

• Denver rap trio BLKHRTS released some new music last week, the similarly vowel-less CHRCH. And to save you the trouble of actually exerting any physical energy to obtain it, the group posted the full 10-track album to its website as a totally free download.

• Nerd out with your prom dress out: Bop Skizzum will be hosting the inaugural Nerd Prom Feb. 10 at the Gothic Theatre. The party-in-a-show will feature live performances, a photo contest, and (of course) the crowning of the first king and queen of Nerd Prom.

• The Hindershot guys have a new music video out, which seems to either be a commentary on the global food crisis or just a good excuse to pelt your friends in the face with condiments and beer.

Video Premiere: “Curse Us All” by Hindershot from Hinder Shot on Vimeo.
