Where most of their psychedelic brethren rely on trendy Creation Records shoegaze blueprints and Elephant Six indie-pop formats, Denver’s Fingers Of The Sun go straight to the genre’s roots: “Cashmere Paisley Polyester” recreates the acid-eating summer of 1967. The six-member band, which is led by former Pseudo Dates singer-guitarist Nathan Brasil and singer-bassist Suzi Allegra, weaves guitar leads and vocal melodies more than a little bit reminiscent of Strawberry Alarm Clock or The Flower Pot Men. If the songwriting alone doesn’t get preservationists’ hearts palpitating, the hard-panned, mid-’60s production reminiscent of early Beatles records ought to. Taken from a three-song EP recorded by Josh Wambeke (Fell, Jim McTurnan And The Kids That Killed The Man), the track’s one of those rare, much-welcomed acid flashbacks.
