Music Notes Flashlights get signed, The Swayback leaves town, and more

The Swayback, Denver, Colorado The Swayback

Our music scene is a busy place with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.

• News came in this week that Denver’s Flashlights had signed with Los Angeles-based imprint Binary. The deal includes a June 6 release of the swoony electronic band’s EP, Hidden Behind Trees. Check out the first single, “Glowing Eyes,” at SoundCloud.

• Both the Denver Botanic Gardens and Boulder’s Chautauqua Auditorium posted updated concert calendars this week, including dates from Andrew Bird, Sharon Jones And The Dap-Kings, Indigo Girls, and B.B. King, among others.

• It’s a good time of year apparently to put stuff out into the world, as there are several local albums coming out within the next few days: Lil’ Thunder drops a new disc at 3 Kings Tavern tonight, psych-rock band Space In Time releases its latest this Friday at the Rockaway Tavern, and DJ Musa shows off his newest mixtape, My Robot Girlfriend (preview it here), also this Friday at the Meadowlark.

• Say farewell to The Swayback, at least for the summer. The band plays a tour kick-off this Friday at the Hi-Dive—with tourmates The Photo Atlas—threatening that this will be its last show in Denver until the end of August.
