Gauntlet Hair drops debut, Mr. Midas releases video, and more
Our music scene is a busy place with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.
• Gauntlet Hair released its self-titled debut LP on Dead Oceans, and it got a solid review from The A.V. Club national. In other blog-buzz local band news, Tennis is set to play at the Adult Swim Block Party Nov. 10 in Fort Collins. Road trip, anyone?
• Rapper Mr. Midas stayed right here in Denver for his newest video, “Tender Kisses.” A loving homage to Midas’ grandma, the track—off Son Of The Crack Era, which won a Best Of award this year from Westword—is definitely a family affair with a guest spot from his sister Rukus and with a cameo in the video from Grandma Midas herself.
• Here’s something else grandmothers usually like: the local symphony. And ours, unfortunately, seems to be in a bit of a financial pickle. Several news outlets—including the Denver Post, Westword, and Colorado Public Radio—have reported on the Colorado Symphony Orchestra’s ongoing money troubles, which have led to massive pay cuts and canceled programs. Kickstarter, anyone?
• Hollagramz unleashed yet another tripped-out, VHS-quality music video onto the World Wide Web. This one, for the track “Smoking Mirror,” is by Denver-based visual artist David Dohrmann. It feels like a throwback to what people thought surfing the ’net looked like in the early ’90s.

Let us help you: Pretty Lights just announced headlining shows for Dec. 30 and 31 at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield. Tickets are on sale now at tickethorse.com and will set you back $45-$60.
