Just Announced Ghost announces first real-deal North American tour

Like labelmates Blood Ceremony, enigmatic Swedish outfit Ghost is working to bring paganism, devil worship, and high-concept ghoulishness back to heavy metal’s thematic fore. Fronted by the so-called Ghoul With No Name decked out in grease paint and a modified Catholic cardinal’s outfit, and filled out by band members clad in face-shrouding black robes and identified only as “???,” Ghost’s a sinister caricature of heavy metal excess—like Slipknot with a sense of humor. And better tunes. And cooler T-shirts.

Playing a few dates in North America in 2010 at Maryland Deathfest and Webster Hall in New York, Ghost’s full-on tour was nixed earlier this year due to visa complications. (It must be hard to get clearance to travel abroad when your name is “???,” right?) But that’s all fixed now, apparently, and one of the weirdest contemporary metal acts is gearing up for a 13-date North American tour, including a stop at the Marquis Theater Jan. 27. According to Ghost’s Ghoul With No Name, “It is with an evil haunting chuckle that we are announcing that we are finally coming to North America. In the name of Satan, we will conduct 13 rituals in 13 different cities throughout the United States and Canada, and now we are summoning all of our devotees to partake in these blasphemous eves of black magic.” Excellent.
