Great Divide turns 16, and everyone’s invited

Great Divide Brewing Company, Denver

Bust out those beer coozies, drinkers. Great Divide Brewing Company is throwing its 16th birthday party on Saturday, and everyone’s invited. There’s no word yet on whether the Great Divide crew will throw a tantrum when they don’t get that new Volkswagen Jetta, but they’re certainly going all out for their sweet 16 with celebratory beers, barbecue, and live music from local acts Snake Rattle Rattle Snake, Dressy Bessy, and Paper Bird.

“We got permission to block the street off,” says Patrick Langlois, Great Divide’s Tap Room manager. “I don’t see it getting sold out, so the more, the merrier.”

As for the special-release birthday brews, Langlois says the selection will be a healthy mix of styles. “We’ve got a bunch of aged beer,” he says. “Some of our stronger beers have aged well, like a wine would, [like our] Barleywine and Hibernation Ale.”

The crew will also be pouring a brand-new, unnamed pilsner beer and a “Flemish-inspired” sour beer dubbed Sourpuss. Don’t you feel sad for people who don’t live in Colorado? Especially people who love beer? Not only do we have access to an abundance of high-class breweries, but they’re so damn friendly that we get invited to their birthday parties.

Admission costs $25 at the door, which includes the beer, the barbecue, and the bands. Festivities run from 2 to 7 p.m.
