Meese waves goodbye (sort of)
When your band gets the hatchet in a cost-cutting spree after lukewarm sales of your major-label debut, there are only two ways to go about it: You can either soldier on with steely independent-band determination, or you can choke on those tears and just call the whole thing off. Denver’s Meese is opting for the latter. The act, which parted with Atlantic Records earlier this year, announced that it’ll play its final club show as Meese this Saturday at the Bluebird Theater. Fans willing to put up with a little extra bullshit—sitting through soccer games and driving up I-25—have a couple of extra chances to catch the act when it plays a Colorado Rapids game July 4 and at Fort Collins’ New West Fest Aug. 21. Or fans can just hold out for even bigger things: Meese isn’t dying out so much as transcending its past. After consigning Meese to local music history, the remaining members plan to fatten up the lineup with a pair of new players and will make another go at it with a new, still unnamed band.
