Paper Bird album release at the Hi-Dive

Boulder seems to have all of the musical goods lately. Hometown homeboys 3OH!3 cracked the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in May, made their second appearance on the cover of Alternative Press this year, and are now off to headline the 2009 Vans Warped Tour. Fellow Boulder area-code holders Paper Bird are also on the up and up, but their approach is more of the ragtime and wandering gypsy variety.

Paper Bird plays the Hi-Dive tonight in celebration of its latest release, A Sky Underground, with Achille Lauro and The Bluegrass Quartet, and follows with a show Thursday at George’s Food & Drink in Boulder and a special free Twist & Shout in-store appearance on Friday. The shows are a precursor to Paper Bird’s summer tour, which culminates with a performance at the Mile High Music Festival and Minnesota’s 10,000 Lakes Festival, both happening in July. Sure, the grassy group may not be in cahoots with Lil Jon (3OH!3 is currently in the studio with the King Of Crunk), but they still rep Boulder with equal pride. Can we get a little more banjo and a little less 808, please?
